Mr Bradley James signing MoU
We are very excited to inform you that we have taken an important step forward after much preparatory work.
The Else Kröner Fresenius Foundation has approved our funding application. We would like to thank them for their trust and look forward to working with them. We are confident that we can make a major contribution to improving healthcare in Papua New Guinea.
At the same time, the local project manager Mr. Bradley James walked several hours through the bush of Papua New Guinea to inform the local community about the news and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
Project Overview
Lighthouse project in rural Papua New Guinea with the establishment of an appropriate "Rural Clinic" and the linking of a context-specific training program.
Our project aims to sustainably improve access to quality healthcare in remote and hard-to-reach regions. First, the medical infrastructure of a health facility is improved in an innovative, context-specific, financially feasible, ecologically targeted manner. Then, the health facility serves as a training center for local health personnel. A comprehensive training and support program is offered on site. The developed concept will initially be applied in Papua New Guinea in the form of a lighthouse project. The project and evaluation results in a replicable concept with which adequate health care can be realized even in the most remote regions worldwide through sensible infrastructure measures in combination with an effective training and support program.
Concept development
Through more than 50 rural outreaches, we had the opportunity to speak with numerous patients, health workers and community leaders. With the help of group discussions and questionnaires, we collected data that was carefully analyzed and shaped into a concept..
Currently we are developing a "Rural Clinic Prototype" as a suitable medical infrastructure in very remote regions. We use modular container clinics for our project. Through efficient use of space, it is intended to provide a multifunctional treatment area where births can be performed, critical patients can be stabilised, minor surgical procedures can be performed, and examinations can be held.
Key features
At the same time, we are working on a targeted medical rural training program which will focus on five key areas:
